This mini kit (and the remainder of the mini kit series) is all about actions. You know…. VERBS! I don't mean those pesky little "state of being" verbs - I'm talking about the ones where someone is really doing something. When someone wants to make changes or improvements in their life, they need to put a verb to work. So, I invite you to put a verb in your layout when you scrap.

"Put a verb it it - Sports" is all about, well, sports. I tried to pick words that could be used with multiple sports or activities. Many of the words work equally well for game playing or other challenging activities; activities where you compete against another person or team or even those where you are simply competing with yourself. So, this kit works great for those with the star athlete to scrap about - or for those that are cheering from the sidelines!

The words in this kit include: achieve, catch, cheer, compete, excel, flip, improve, run, score, ski, throw, and win.

Also included is a bonus template created by my friend Monica. I just love the creativity of her templates and I hope you like it too!

The "Good - Better - Best" Layout Tutorial

We'veall been there, a really great idea hits us for a layout. We can see it in our head - and boy is itamazing. But, as we work on creatingthat vision on the computer, certain aspects just don't seem to be comingtogether. Recently, I saw just such alayout in one of my Digitals' Challenges. When I saw the thumbnail sized version before I opened it in thegallery, I could see the amazing idea. But, when I viewed it at gallery size, I instantly knew that it didn'tturn out how she had envisioned how it would.

Beforewe go any further, thanks so much to Maureen (AKA Mayeyesup) for allowing me touse her layout as the example for this tutorial. She really did have a great idea, one thatothers might want to duplicate, but could use a little help in figuring out howto create it. Also, thanks to Monica (AKASparky_Mom) for assisting me in so many ways with the creation of this tutorial.

Good

Maureen'sidea was to use the circular frame in a different way. She wanted to tuck a 4x6 photo into it wherepart of the photo tucks behind the frame and the remainder goes over or infront of the frame. She accented thiswith a grungy photo mask (used with a paper), beads, and a notebook paper forher journaling.

Theproblems…. The main problem is that she had trouble getting the photo and frameto have that "in front of and behind" appearance. When that caused problems, she took other stepsto try to show the depth of the layout; she beveled the frame and added shadowsthat don't exactly look right. Bevelingthat doesn't fit or shadows that are the wrong size will cause a good design tofall flat.

Better

Monicaand I worked together on the recreation layout - she used Photoshop, buteverything she did can be repeated in PSE and probably any other software thatallows for layering. Monica used a verysimple font, not because Maureen's was wrong, but simply to use one thateveryone can use. We decided to move thebeads for two reasons: 1. the beads are a little lost on the original layoutand 2. putting them where we did adds to the threaded look of the photo/frameaspect.

Now,the details….

Photomask. Monica didn't have the same mask,so she used the original layout that Maureen provided (full sized) to re-createit. In the "Better" example,you can see that she missed a few spots and it isn't perfect. She used a smaller shadow than Maureen did toshow that this would be a flatter item on the layout. Remember, your shadows should be relative tothe size of the object. Flat papers oritems that would seem painted or printed onto a layout would have the smallestshadows.

Theframe/photo. Whenever you want to havesomething be "threaded" through something else, you'll need to haveportions of it to be duplicated. Onceyou get all the parts positioned EXACTLY like you want, I suggest duplicatingall involved layers; you can rearrange the order of the layers as needed. This will also allow you to only make"cuts" on the layer copies. Before you do anything else, link the layers together. This way, if one gets moved, they all move! For now, let's work with only the frame andphoto - make both photo layers and one frame layer visible and turn all theother layers invisible. Order the photosso that the original is behind the frame and the copy is in front of it (you'llsee that the photo sits on top of the frame. Add shadows to the original photo and frame layers only. Now, here's the magic, on the photo copy youcan cut away the left half of the photo; this will allow the frame layer andall it's shadows to show! To get thebeads to also be threaded, I would suggest having the original beads be overthe photo copy and then have the frame copy on top of all of it. Shadow the beads (remember, they are thickerand would have a larger shadow) and then cut away or erase all of the frameEXCEPT what you want to be covering the beads. Monica has the ribbon over the beads also, but you could chose to haveit behind. The choice is totally yours.

Finishingdetails. The notebook paper was addedwith text in the same place and text was added to the photo (making sure it waslayered over the photo copy!) Thebiggest change here is that we did NOT put a shadow on the font. The only time you want to add a shadow tolettering is when you want it to appear to be something with depth; such aspuffy letters, stickers, or some other item that is added to the layout. When you want a font to appear to be inkedonto the layout, as it would be on this photo, you shouldn't give itshadows.

You'llalso notice that we didn't add a bevel to the frame. As a designer, I already added depth to theframe. The edges of the original frameare beveled and the ribbon was shadowed onto the frame. Adding a bevel to it altered the texture andcolor of the frame and changed the way the ribbon worked with the frame.

Best

Asgreat as it looked at this point, there were still little problems that couldbe fixed to make it even better!

PhotoMask. The small problems were correctedand the shadow was made even a touch smaller. Once other problems were corrected, those small issues showed more.

Frame/Photo. The final fix for any threaded look is tolook VERY closely at shadows and fix as needed. The places where we had to digitally stack actually have missingshadows; this is most visible where the photo goes over the frame. You can see on the "better" layoutthat it just looks wrong - there isn't a shadow on the frame on the bottomright side. To fix this, you can do acouple things: 1. use a burn tool to create your own shadow on the frame layeror 2. add a shadow to the photo copy. Ifyou do the first, then you are changing the frame in a way that you can'tadjust later, but it is the faster fix. If you add a shadow to the photo copy, then you'll have a new problem tofix; it will add shadows all the way around it! To fix this, you'll need to "simplify" the photo copy (thismakes the shadow become part of the image instead of being an applied style),next, you need to erase or cut out all the edges of the photo copy except forthe areas where you want this new shadow to show. Repeat for the beads as needed.

Journaling. This is such a small detail, but somethingthat I like to do whenever I can. All wedid here was make sure that the lettering fit on the lines of the journalpaper. To do this, just change the size ofthe text! You can change it in just onedirection to get the perfect fit.

Taking it even farther!

Westopped at the "best" step above. This is where we would probablytake it if we were doing this type of layout. But, there is one move step you could do to get an even better finishedlayout. While we did achieve a look thatconvinces the eyes that the photo is threaded through the frame, it isn'texactly perfect. Well, maybe it is tooperfect! The photo is still exactlyrectangular with straight edges. "In real life", the photo would have a curve to it from whereit switches from being flat against the background and then curves over theframe.

Ifyou wanted to make a layout using this technique and you wanted it to be a realshow-stopper, you could take this last step! Go back to the original photo layer and make a new copy. Rename the copy to indicate it is your"curved" photo. Hide theoriginal and the straight copy layers. At this point, you can use whatever method you want to warp or alter thephoto. Then, duplicate the curved photoand repeat the layering/shadowing fixes listed above.

Here's just a few topics that would be fun to scrap with this mini: family, holidays, love, Church, resolutions, and our personal journey with God. While all the kits in this series will work together, I included a strong dose of pink for this mini. This will help you get a feeling of peace and well being in your pages.

The words in this kit include: believe, celebrate, give, help, hope, learn, love, praise, pray, smile, thrive, and worship.

Gym Girls - 5x7 inch album

One of the popular sizes for album printing is the 5x7 album (often for a really great price); I've created several sets of quick pages to make it super fast and easy to create an entire album for printing! With each set, you get: several matching pages (they look great side-by-side in the book), a bonus with the picture opening centered (fits most of the albums I've seen), and additional "papers" so you can add extra pages as needed.

*** On each page and paper, I've included a background behind the main area. This is attractive as is, but is actually included so that you don't have to worry about the printer cutting off a small portion of each page! Also, it gives a consistency to your album.

This set of 5x7 pages is the largest I've ever created. I currently have six sets of "Gym Girls" kits in the store, and all six are represented in this album collection. Gym Girls - Pink Power

Whether you have a child that just loves to flip and tumble or your child is on a gymnastics team, this kit (or one of the others in the series) is just what you need! With over 20 papers, 13 ribbons, and 22 other elements, you'll find that it's very generously sized and can work for a wide variety of layouts. But, with 8 specialty papers and 5 elements that are JUST for gymnastics, you'll be able to create those special pages that feature your child in her chosen sport.

The colors in this kit were selected to match my daughter's new team leo (and it seems like 1/3 of the teams she competed against also used these colors!); if these colors don't work for your gymnast, check to see if my other kits might already work for you. This double template is great for when you have one picture that you want to really have stand out but still have others that help to support your "story". One page features a photo block that nearly fills the page, while the other page uses paper strips to divide off a section for three smaller photo, a title, and plenty of journaling. There is also place to include some elements, insuring that your finished layout will have that truly personal touch.

Slight drop shadows are included on the .psd versions only for your scrapping convenience. These are easy to change or remove if desired.

This month's new double template is perfect for when you need to highlight photos. It feels like you've opened a file folder to look inside! There are spots for four large photos and two smaller ones - plus titling and extra sub-titles (or journaling). There's also spots for a couple extra elements. I've built in layers for three different papers and I've also included stitching that simply needs to be recolored for beautiful results.

Need more photos? You could sub-divide the larger photos or even use the circles for other pictures instead of elements.

Once your friends and family find out you can digi-scrap, you are sure to get requests to create albums or pages to document various groups. Church groups, school groups, sport groups, the list just seems to go on and on and on.

I recently started doing the yearbook for my daughter's gymnastics team. The first thing I did was create template bases for myself so that I could quickly and easily scrap the pages that needed to show many pictures in a neat and tidy way. Now, I'm bringing those templates to you.

I've included template bases in three photo sizes - and for each one, I've included three versions. Plus, I've included instructions on how to further adapt the templates to suit your own unique needs. These are all created for double page - 12x12 inch scrapping. But, you can use them for single page scrapping if desired - or even alter the size for other print sizes.

Make sure to look through the extra previews (instructions included) to get a better idea of how these great templates can be used to make scrapping faster and easier.

Hey, batter-batter-batter! If you love baseball, play baseball, or love someone that does, then this kit should be a home run for you! Perfect for lovers of softball also! The kit is created with a fairly general color scheme so that it should work with a wide variety of photos. The green of the grass, the blues of the sky, and the red and white of a traditional ball all come together in this pleasantly attractive kit.

Included:
20 papers
Complete upper case alphabet with numbers
1 strand of beads - baseball style
4 unique buttons - all baseball style
5 embroidery elements (four are different colors of the same baseball player)
3 embroidery and text wordart designs
3 frames
7 blue twill tape ribbon elements
